Shmira apprehends burglar
January 3, 2010 Filed under Shmira News
Saturday, January 2, 2009 at around 9:30pm, a Shmira unit was sitting in his neighbors house, on Crown street between Troy and Albany Avenues, when family members keeping an eye on a live video feed from security cameras in the back of their house saw a black male attempting to gain entry to the house via the basement door as well as the garage. They immediately notified the Shmira unit and continued observing as the black male moved on to the house next door, the Shmira units home.
The Shmira unit called for backup and went outside to investigate. Upon entering the garage, the Shmira unit comes face to face with the burglar. Feeling threatened by the intrusion the Shmira unit attempted to subdue the black male but after a quick fight and scuffle the black male managed to run out of the gate and alleyway toward Albany Avenue. The chase commenced with backup from multiple Shmira units arriving on the scene. The Shmira units chased the black male up Albany Avenue all the way to Union St and in the interim managed to flag down passing police officers in scooters who joined the chase. The suspect turned from Albany Ave onto Union St towards Troy Ave and immediately rolled under a parked van to hide almost successfully when the first couple of police officers ran right past him. A Shmira units saw the black male hiding under the van and with other Shmira units cut off any escape routes and stopped the next passing Police car that was responding and the Police officers immediately took the black male into custody.
The perpetrator is being charged with felony attempted burglary and third degree assault.
Crown Heights Shmira would like to thank the Officers of the NYPD as well as all of the Shmira units who responded and helped apprehend another criminal that was on our streets breaking into cars, garages and possibly homes as well.
