BURGLAR APPREHENDED FOR MULTIPLE HEISTS

December 14, 2009 Filed under Shmira News

Sunday, December 13 2009, 9:00PM: A crown heights resident spotted a suspicious male black on Eastern Parkway near Kingston Avenue pushing a baby stroller full of Judaica items, including Chanuka Menorahs and a bag from Hamaifitz. The resident called the Shmira hot-line. The first Shmira members on scene spotted the suspect approaching Albany Avenue. The members approached the suspect and attempted to start a dialogue however the suspect immediately dropped the stroller and began to flee down Albany Avenue toward St. Johns. In the interim the suspect removed his jacket and hat, attempting to make it difficult for him to be identified. Shmira members gave chase and flagged down an NYPD patrol car. The Officers quickly restrained the suspect on St. Johns between Albany and Troy Avenues. Shmira members immediately went to work trying to figure out who these items belonged to. Time was running out since without a complainant the Officers would have no choice but to let the suspect go.

One of the items in the stroller was a bag of towels. Earlier during the day the Shmira hot-line had received a call that the burglar alarm had been activated at Mikveh Meir located on Kingston Avenue near Montgomery Street and that it seamed to be a false alarm. Shmira members contacted the manager of the Mikveh and asked that he come down to and confirm if the towels were from the Mikveh. The manager came down and verified that they were indeed from the Mikveh.

Another item found between the stolen goods was a GPS system. A team of Shmira members quickly set out to track down the owner. Upon seeing his GPS the owner was shocked, he didn’t even know it was missing. He quickly led the Shmira members to his car and found that it had been broken into and thoroughly ransacked. He too came down and identified many of his belongings.

The manager later reviewed his cameras and found video footage of the perpetrator burglarizing the Mikveh.

NOTICE:
1. There is a clear bag with folded towels still missing. If found please return to Mikveh Meir.
2. The owner of the baby stroller itself was still not found. If you are missing a Mclaren baby stroller please contact the Shmira hot-line at 718-221-0303 during daytime hours.

Crown Heights Shmira would like to thank the NYPD officers of the 77th Precinct for their outstanding performance and cooperation.

If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to call 911 and the Shmira hot-line @ 718-221-0303.
