Shmira retrieves stolen bike
September 22, 2008 Filed under Shmira News
Saturday, September 20, 2008 10:00pm: A bochur went inside a house on Crown St. (between Brooklyn and New York) leaving his bicycle outside for under a minute but when he returned, the bike was gone. He immediately called Shmira and flagged down a passing Police car and both Shmira members and Police responded and canvassed the area searching for the bike without luck.
The next day, the bochur noticed an African American male, around 20 years of age, walking the bike on Montgomery Street near Albany Avenue. The bochur followed from a distance while he dialed the Shmira hotline. Shmira members responded and approached the suspect on Montgomery Street near Troy Avenue. Upon seeing the Shmira members the suspect dropped the bike and fled. Shmira members followed the suspect to 825 Crown Street, between Utica and Rochester Avenues, where he fled into an apartment in the building. Police arrived and advised the complainant that in the event that he sees the perpetrator on the street, he should call Shmira and 911 and the perpetrator will be placed under arrest.
Very nic happy you guys were able to get thet bike back.
now al thats left is to lock up the criminal.
Why did the police not enter the building and arrst the guy on the spot??
they need to wait for the guy to be spotted on the street?
maybe wait until he commits another crime???
People LEARN A LESSON do not leave your bike unattended for even a split second.
thankx shmira for getting the stolen property back for the owner
Great job!!
Keep it up!

Thank you crown heights shmira for retrieving the bike back and for protecting our community 24 7 you guys are truly amazing kol hakovod
Always a great job SHMIRA
@lev.
I was there.
They did go up to the apartment where he lives but they did not answer. under the law they would need an arrest warrant to go in to the house, so there would be nothing they could do unless he was in public property.
We do thank the NYPD and all Shmira members for responding
The Police cannot enter someones property without a warrant.
And they do onot have one and will not get one for a bike thief.
If the guy is spotted on the street Shmira and 911 will be called and he will be placed under arrest.
The police were told by bystanders outside the building to go to a certain apartment, the person that answered had no clue what was going on. Apparently the people outside were trying to throw off the police on which apartment to go to.
Great job!!!
Good job shmira

Funny thing that I lived at that address 55 years ago on Crown Street, How neighborhoods and times change.
