This past Thursday a Crown Heights resident returned home located on President near troy Ave. and realized that his basement apartment had been burglarized, his laptop computer and other personal belonging were stolen. The victim called 911 and made a police report. The victim and the police determined that the burglar must have been very small in size because the only possible point of entry was a very small window.
The next day Friday about ten minutes to Shabbos the victim realized that there is a young black male attempting to enter that same window, the victim then exited his apartment to approach the would be burglar who then took off running with the victim in chase, it ended (on Union St. Between Albany and Troy avenues) when a couple of yungeliet joined in to help and called Shmira.
“Behashgacha Pratis” as the call was broadcast on the Shmira Radio, a Shmira Coordinator happened to be on the phone discussing a previous crime with inspector Simonetti (of the 71st Pct.) and notified him of the incident, the Inspector immediately dispatched a Police Sergeant to the scene who did a great job communicating with the victim and Shmira members on location and in thoroughly investigating the crime, taking into consideration that Shabbos was only a few minutes away.
The Sergeant then placed the young perpetrator under arrest for trespassing, upon further questioning at the Police station the young perpetrator confessed that he was the one who burglarized the apartment the day earlier, and was charged with a slew of crimes.
At this time Police believe that they know where the belongings are and will be attempting to retrieve them.
In court Monday morning the victim was told by the Assistant District Attorney that the perpetrator was facing Three years in Juvenile hall.
We would like to thank the bystanders who helped and Shmira for doing a great job and special thanks to the men in the 71st Precinct for doing an exemplary job in fighting crime.
