This past Sunday as Bochurim were sitting and Learning in Choivevei Torah On Eastern Parkway near Albany Avenue, a large brick came crashing in to the first-floor classroom, striking a Bochur in the head. The Bochur sustained deep cuts and lacerations to his head, requiring multiple stitches to control the bleeding.

A group of three Black teens came onto Yeshiva property, brick in hand and threw the brick through a low window at a Bochur, who was sitting a mere 3 feet from the window. Read more

At about 10:25pm Wednesday night Shmira received a call on the emergency hotline from a sharp eyed Crown Heights resident, who witnessed a black male smashing the window of car parked on Carroll street between Kingston and Brooklyn avenues and stealing a GPS navigation unit that was left mounted on the dashboard, the witness advised Shmira that he was following the perpetrator , Shmira members quickly responded and joined in the chase, and nabbed the most notorious Car Burglar in the Crown Heights area Terrance Nelson, on Union street Near Albany avenue.

Shmira immediately called NYPD and held the thief till the police arrived, when the responding Police officers searched the perpetrator they found on his person the stolen GPS unit along with burglary tools.

Sunday, January 25, 2009 9:00am: Shmira received a call from a resident of an apartment building located at 672 Empire Blvd. The caller stated that there was a black male teenager sitting on the stairs on the 4th floor and that he didn’t live in the building and didn’t look to good either.

A few Shmira members responded and found the teenager to be foaming a little from the mouth, sitting next to a helmet and bag with some of his belongings. After starting a dialog with the young man the Shmira members found him to be mentally challenged. Read more

Shmira assists with evacuation during fire

Tuesday, December 18, 2008 at approximately 7:00pm: A fire broke out at 763 Eastern Parkway (between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues), an apartment building that is occupied by numerous residents. The fire broke out in an apartment on the fifth floor.

Shmira, FDNY and Hatzalah were immediately called. A Shmira member who was first on scene ran up to the fifth and sixth floors and assisted residents in evacuating their apartments. FDNY responded and had the fire, which was confined only to one apartment, under control within minutes. A Shmira member, who is also an EMT treated one of the fire fighters who was slightly injured while extinguishing the blaze.
Thank G-d there was no serious injuries.

At around 8:30 PM Tuesday night, a Jewish driver in a white 15 passenger van collided with a white sedan on Troy Avenue while crossing the President Street and Troy Avenue intersection. The collision sent the van slamming into a parked car at the corner.

A dispute broke out between the two drivers as to who was at fault for the accident. A passer by quickly called Shmira. Multiple Shmira units who arrived and succeeded in calming the two drivers. A police report was filed, Hatzalah was not called since there were no serious injuries B”H.

A message from Crown Heights Shmira to Crown Heights Residents: Following an accident, always remain calm, and do not initiate a discussion with the other partys involved regarding who is at fault. Even if you are confidant the other driver is wrong, remain calm, call 911 and Shmira.

NOVEMBER 28, 2008 6:00 PM: As if this past Friday we did not have enough problems, as if the Murder of the Shluchim, Rabbi Gavriel and Mrs. Rivka Holtzberg HYD, along with four other Jews who were brutally murdered by terrorists in their Chabad House in Mumbai, India was not enough, Lubavitchers were attacked again, this time in Crown Heights.

It all began at around 6:00 PM Friday night, as two Bocherim walking home from Shul were surrounded by a group of 7 African American youth’s who demanded that they hand over their money. The Bochurim, only sixteen years of age, responded that they don’t carry money on shabbos.

Cars vandalized on Montgomery Street

September 29, 2008 3:46am: Crown Heights Shmira received a call from a concerned resident who saw a suspicious looking man looking into cars on Montgomery between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues. Shmira members responded and canvassed the area. There were two suspicious males wondering in between cars on Montgomery Street and on Crown Street. Shmira members checked all the vehicles on both blocks confirming that there was no damage on any of the vehicles at the time. Shmira members remained on the block for some time until the suspicious men left and then continued their patrol.

Graffiti on Crown Height home

September 28, 2008 6:00pm: Crown Heights Shmira received a call from a Crown Heights resident that noticed some graffiti painted over the sign in front of 370 Crown Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues. Shmira members responded and canvassed the block. After affirming that this was an isolated case on the block the members advised that a Police report should be made.

Thank You letter from grateful resident

I would like to thank Crown Heights Shmira for helping me out last Motzei Shabbos. I called the Shmira hotline saying that my bike had just been stolen and Shmira responded with dozens of Unit’s. They canvassed the area for 3 hours looking for my bike, but the thief was gone. The story doesn’t end there, the next day I saw the thief with my bike on Montgomery St., so I called Shmira again and when I hung up the phone with the Shmira Dispatcher, there were already Shmira units on scene chasing the thief. I was also chasing the thief while screaming Chaptzem & Help.

Break in to Kehal Chassidim

Some time this afternoon, a burglar broke into The Kehal Chassidim Shul at 1612 Carroll Street, and tore the Poroches off the Aron Kodesh in an attempt to break in to the safe that holds the Sifrei Torah, but Boruch Hashem did not succeed, the Burglar also managed to break the locking mechanism of the main Tzdaka Pushka but was still unable to figure out how to open it, during the burglary Chumushim Talaisim and Sidurim along with the cover of the Bima were also thrown on to the floor. someone noticed that the Shul was in disarray and called Crown Heights Shmira and 911, a thorough search of the Shul was conducted, but the perpetrator was gone, Police are investigating.
