Wednesday August 6th 2014 at 5:30pm, the Shmira hotline lit up and a distraught caller stated that he dropped his cell phone outside his car as he was loading packages and that witnesses observed a black woman on a bicycle pick it up and leave without returning it to him.

Midnight Break-in

Tuesday August 5th, 2014, two Shmira CHSP volunteers were on night patrol at 3:45am when they heard a car alarm begin to sound from inside the alleyway on Albany avenue between Carroll street and Crown street.
They entered the alley and found a grey 15 passenger van with its door open, interior lights on and alarm ringing.

August 3, 2014 at 11:30am crown heights Shmira CHSP received a report about swastikas painted inside 350 Lefferts Avenue, a crown heights apartment building.
Shmira units responded and indeed found a total of 8 swastikas painted on the wall of the stairwell.

IPHONE SNATCHER IN CROWN HEIGHTS

Friday, April 05, 2013 approximately 1:45PM: A bystander noticed a teenager snatch an iphone from an unsuspecting young woman who was standing on the corner of Troy Avenue and Carroll Street while texting. He immediately called the Crown Heights Shmira hotline. Shmira members responded and canvassed the area with the victim with no luck. In the meantime, 911 was called and Police officers arrived and checked the cameras from the grocery store on the corner but were only able to get a partial description of the perpetrator. Meanwhile, Shmira members were tracking the phone via the iphone GPS tracking, but it was ‘offline’.

SHMIRA SELF-DEFENCE SEMINAR A SUCCESS

On Sunday, January 6, a 2-hour seminar about street-wise self-defense was held in the heart of Crown Heights, organized by the Crown Heights Shmira patrol.
The seminar, attended by men and boys ages 13 and up, educated the community on the basics of how to defend oneself against common street attacks.
