Sunday, September 21, 2014 at approximately 10:45AM: The Crown Heights Shmira hotline received a call from a local store owner who witnessed someone spray painting the wooden panels outside a construction site on Carroll Street between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenue. Shmira members responded and met up with the caller who was following the perpetrator. After the caller pointed out the perpetrator he left and Shmira members continued discreetly following while waiting for police to respond. Read more

Post Slichos Awakening

Sunday, September 21, 2014 at approximately 2:15AM: The Crown Heights Shmira hotline received a call from a Crown Heights resident stating that there was an unfamiliar man pounding on his front door on Crown Street between Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues. Shmira members responded and found the man walking away from the location. After questioning the fifty year old suspect, Shmira members quickly deduced that the man had no criminal intentions and was only disoriented and possibly intoxicated. EMS was dispatched to treat the patient.

Boys Throwing Rocks Damage Car

Three young boys are seen walking up New York Avenue between Crown and Carroll Streets when one of them bends down, picks up a rock and throws it at a passing car. The car sustained damage to the windshield and a police report was filled.
This is one of a few incidents that occurred this past week involving young boys throwing rocks at houses and passing vehicles.

Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 3:35AM: An alert Crown Heights resident noticed  two suspicious males walking on Albany Avenue near Crown Street trying door handles of vehicles.

Bicycle Thief

Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 9:58AM: Perp is seen in front of True Value hardware store located at 829 E New York Avenue in crown Heights, Brooklyn. He cases the area before making off with a bike that was left outside. This is believed to be the second time this perp stole a bicycle from the same location. The previous incident occurred approximately two weeks prior.

Tefilin “BuyBack”

Sunday, August 17, 2014 approximately 2:00pm:  A Crown Heights resident had been unloading his vehicle on Union Street near Albany Avenue and returned to his car to notice his bag, containing a pair of tefilin*  had disappeared.  Shortly thereafter, the victim received a phone call from a man claiming to have his bag. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:45PM: Three male blacks are seen punching a Hasidic teenager in what appears to be a “knockout game” attack. The incident occurred on Albany Avenue near Union Street in Crown Heights. Read more

Persistent Thief Arrested

Friday, August 15th, 2014 12:55AM: Shmira received a hotline call from a concerned woman who witnessed a male black stealing chairs from her neighbor’s porch on crown street. Shmira dispatched units to follow the alleged thief while other units proceeded to locate the property owner. Read more

Shmira Recovers Stolen Bike

Monday, August 11, 2014 at 4:43PM A young boy entered the Family Dollar store on Lefferts Avenue and Kingston ave and left his bicycle outside. Upon exiting the store he spotted a male taking off with his bike. He immediately called Crown Heights Shmira requesting assistance. Shmira members arrived on the scene and after getting a full description of the thief and his bike, they began a search. Read more
