Friday, June, 06, 2008 at approximately 2:15am a Shmira member, who is an Emergency Medical Technician was patrolling on Lincoln Place between Albany and Troy Avenue when he came upon the scene of a black woman laying face down on the sidewalk in a large pool of her own blood streaming down to the Street. Friday, June 06, 2008 at approximately 2:00pm a Crown Heights resident noticed a suspicious black man entering the premises of one of the houses on President Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenue. The suspicious man entered empty handed however exited soon thereafter carrying a FedEx box that had been dropped off on the porch in front of the house. The observer called Shmira and started following the suspicious man. The resident flagged down some Officers on foot patrol who in turn stopped the suspect. However, since the sticker with the owners name on it had been removed there seemed to be no way of proving who it belonged to and without a complainant the Officers would have to let the suspect go. SHMIRA ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT

Monday june 2nd, at approximately 8:30pm a Woman looking out of her window, noticed a suspicious man climbing up the scaffold towards the apartment above the cleaners located on Empire Boulevard and Albany Avenue. The Woman immediately called her husband, who is a Shmira member. The Shmira member called for backup as he watched the man climb up to the second floor. Backup arrived, however the man was quick, and he had already gained access to the apartment on the second floor through an unlocked window. One of the Shmira members flagged down a Police car, informed Officers of the situation, they in turn radioed in for backup. Read more
SHMIRA RETRIEVES STOLEN SCOOTER

Friday at approximately 5:20pm a young boy entered the Bargain Center located on Kingston Avenue between Crown and Carroll Street leaving his scooter unattended outside the store. Moments later, upon exiting the store the scooter had disappeared.
The boy called Shmira. Shmira members arrived on scene, called 911, got a description of the scooter and immediately spread out canvassing the area in search for the scooter. When Police arrived they stated that the boy would have to come down to the precinct later on with his parents to make the report since they were unable to make the report in the absence of his parents. Meanwhile multiple Shmira volunteers were diligently searching all the streets and alleyways in the neighborhood. After an hour and a half of searching one of the volunteers found the scooter abandoned on Crown Street near the entrance to a house. The boy was called and his scooter was returned to him. Read more
SHMIRA HELPS FIND MISSING BOY

Thursday, May 29 at approximately 9:10pm the Shmira hotline rings, a worried mother is on the other line she doesn’t know where her son is. He didn’t come home after school. The dispatcher gets a description and broadcasts it over the air. While units are canvassing the area trying to locate the boy, one of the units head over to the complainants house to get a photograph and more information. Behashgocho Pratis (By Divine Providence) one of the units was standing near one of the missing boys’ teachers, who made some phone calls and successfully found the boy.

Sunday, May 18, 2008 at approximately 3:00pm a 15 year old Jewish boy, who suffers from Down syndrome was walking home from school when two African American teenagers approached him on Carroll Street between Troy and Schenectady Avenue and asked him for his money. When he replied that he had no money the perpetrators proceeded to move toward him in a threatening manner at which time the boy began running with the perpetrators close behind him giving chase. The Down syndrome boy running away from his attackers tripped and fell on the ground. Just as the two perpetrators were closing in upon the boy a passing motorist noticed the boy being chased from afar and immediately pulled over to help the boy. Upon his arrival the perpetrators got scared and ran away. The witness called Shmira and members responded within seconds. The Shmira members together with the witness took the boy into the vehicle where he would feel a bit safer and began questioning the boy for a description of the perpetrators. A block later on Carroll Street between Schenectady and Utica Avenue the boy noticed the perpetrators standing outside one of the houses. 911 was immediately dispatched and Shmira members kept an eye on the perpetrators until the Police arrived. SHMIRA NABS PUSHKA THIEVES

At around 9:15pm Monday night, two male blacks entered a restaurant on the corner of Empire Blvd. and Kingston Ave. and stole several pushkas. A crown heights Shmira member that was in the restaurant realized what was happening and immediately called for backup. Multiple Shmira units responded and started following the perpetrators until the Police would arrive. The Shmira units followed the perpetrators to Kingston and Lefferts Ave. were the perpetrators realized that they were being followed and split up. The Shmira units responded quickly by forming two teams to follow the perpetrators separately. One of the perpetrators ran to East New York and Albany Ave. where Police and shmira apprehended him and placed him under arrest and found that he was in possession of a weapon. The other one was followed until Crown St. and Troy Ave. where he was apprehended and arrested by Police and shmira.

Shmira helps cops apprehend African-Americans who assaulted man in front of 770

At approximately 5:00 pm Tuesday evening a 50 year old man was resting on a bench in front of 770 when for no reason he was viciously attacked beaten and cut with a sharp object, by a group of 6 African American males.
Crown heights shmira was called and immediately responded to the scene, units gave chase to the group of attackers and called NYPD. At some point the attackers, thought that they were no longer being followed and sat down on a bench, Shmira members remained hidden from view while another member flagged down a Police car.
The victim positively identified four of his attackers and they were placed under arrest.
Shmira Members ‘Rescue’ Livery Driver

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn – Shmira members assisted in possibly saving the life of an African American livery driver, who was being robbed at gunpoint this past Tuesday morning. The incident began at 1:00 AM on Maple St. and Kingston Ave. as Shmira members on a routine neighborhood patrol spotted a livery cab on rolling slowly in the parking lane and ramming the parked car in front of it.
Shmira members approached the oddly behaving vehicle, when the drivers’ door abruptly flung open as the cab driver attempted to flee the vehicle, but was being held back by a thug inside the vehicle weilding a handgun pointed at the drivers head. The driver, finally managed to break loose and fell out of the moving car, rolling on the road a several times, the car continued moving and smashed in to an additional parked car. The quick acting Shmira members grabbed the driver and put him into their patrol car, reversed out of the block, called 911 and brought him to the 71st Pct, the driver thanked the Shmira members profusely “for saving his life”.
